Ingredients

The following ingredients have 4 Servings
  • 2 tbsp 30 ml canola or peanut oil
  • 1 lb 454 g sirloin steak, sliced across the grain into thin strips
  • 2 tbsp 30 ml cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup 60 ml reduced sodium soy sauce (I use Kikkoman's)
  • 1/4 cup 60 ml maple syrup
  • Zest and juice from 1/2 an orange (or 1 clementine)
  • 2 tbsp 30 ml rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp 15 ml minced ginger
  • 1 tsp 5 ml toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tsp 5 ml cornstarch
  • 1 tsp 5 ml toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 green onion (thinly sliced)

Instruction

  • Combine all the sauce ingredient in a measuring cup and set aside.
  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over high heat.
  • In a large bowl, combine the steak strips with the cornstarch, tossing to coat. Immediately transfer the steak strips to the hot skillet and sauté until just cooked and browned in spots, 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer to a plate.
  • Lower the heat to medium, then pour the sauce into the skillet and bring to a simmer. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken, then stir in the steak and toss to coat with the sauce.
  • Serve immediately, sprinkled with sesame seeds and green onions, and accompanied with steamed veggies and rice.
