Ingredients
The following ingredients have 4 Servings
- 1 1/8 cup(s) Crisco (only use Crisco) recipe says a "good" cup
- 1 1/2 cup(s) sugar
- 2 medium eggs
- 1 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract
- 1 cup(s) buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon(s) baking soda
- 2 teaspoon(s) baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
- 3 1/2 cup(s) all-purpose flour (may need up to 4 cups), plus more for dusting
Instruction
- Beat together the shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla with mixer.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
- Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk (a little at a time) to the creamed sugar mixture until completely mixed. The dough will be fairly sticky.
- Generously flour board. Scoop out smaller portions of dough.
- Pat out with your hand to 1/4"-1/2" thickness.
- Flour cookie cutter, cut and place on ungreased cookie sheet. (I use a round jelly glass to cut out the cookies).
- Sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Do not over bake. Let cool a couple of minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
- NOTE: You can decorate with colored sugars or sprinkles or even place a nut or raisin in the center of the cookie before baking or frost after cooling.
