Ingredients
The following ingredients have 4 Servings
- 1 small head red cabbage (washed & coarsely sliced)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 - tart apples (granny smith are good) cored and quartered
- 2 teaspoon(s) salt
- 1 cup(s) hot water
- 1 1/2 tablespoon(s) sugar
- 1/2 cup(s) red wine vinegar
- 3 tablespoon(s) bacon grease or butter
Instruction
- Place all ingredients in crock pot in order listed. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours (High 3-4 hours)
- Stir well before serving.
- NOTE: may add any or all of the following, if you like: 1/4 tsp. freshly ground nutmeg 1/2 tsp. grounds cloves 1/2 tsp. caraway seeds (optional)
- This should fit a 4-5 qt slow cooker For larger (6 qt) crock pot, use large head of cabbage and add 1/2 C of apple juice
