Ingredients

The following ingredients have 12 Servings
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 pound ground lean beef/turkey*
  • 1 medium onion (chopped)
  • 1 medium green bell pepper (chopped)
  • 2 15 ounce cans petite diced tomatoes (drained)
  • 15 ounce can pinto beans (rinsed & drained)
  • 15 ounce can kidney beans (rinsed & drained)
  • 2 8 ounce cans tomato sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Mexican chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper (optional)
  • Toppings of your choice

Instruction

  • In a Dutch oven or large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add turkey or beef and cook until nearly browned, stirring frequently, approximately 5-7 minutes. Since the meat is lean, it should not require any draining.
  • Add onion and bell pepper and cook until softened, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes.
  • Add remaining ingredients, stirring to combine.
  • Bring to simmer for a minimum of 10 minutes.
  • Ladle into bowls and top with your choice of garnishes, cheese, sour cream, raw onions or anything else you can imagine!
