Ingredients

The following ingredients have 4 Servings
  • 1 pound pizza dough ((room temperature))
  • 8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 pound ground italian sausage ((sweet))
  • 1 cup small diced apples ((1-2 mcintosh))
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh rosemary
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil ((divided))

Instruction

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of the oil to a medium nonstick skillet and heat over medium high heat.
  • Add the sausage; breaking it down to small pieces while browning until it is completely cooked; approximately 5 minutes.
  • Peel, core and dice the apples into small pieces; then add them along with the chopped rosemary to the sausage. Simmer 2-3 minutes until the apples start to get soft.
  • Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil to a sheet pan (or pizza stone); then roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4-inch thick. (I like to cover the dough on both sides with the oil. You'll also want to make sure there is some oil on the pan under the dough so that the crust crisps up to slide off easily after cooking).
  • Top with shredded cheese leaving a 1/2-inch border around all sides.
  • Next, add the sausage mixture to cover the cheese.  Place in the oven and cook 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is hot and bubbly and golden brown.
