Ingredients

The following ingredients have 4 Servings
  • 2 tbs butter (optional – 2 tbs vegetable oil if keeping vegan)
  • ½ onion chopped small
  • 3 cloves of garlic – minced
  • 1 15 oz can of tomato sauce (it is the bigger sized can of sauce)
  • 1 6 oz can of tomato paste
  • 1 15 oz San Marzano Tomatoes
  • 1 heavy pinch of dried chipotle peppper
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tbs heavy cream (optional – 3 tbs almond milk if keeping vegan)

Instruction

  • In a sauce pot, over medium heat,  melt the butter.  Add the onion and cook until soft – 2-3 minutes. Add the garlic. Cook for 2 minutes more.
  • Add the tomato sauce, paste and san marzano tomatoes.  Use a potato masher and smash the san marzano tomatoes to release the juices.
  • Add the chipotle pepper, sugar, salt and pepper. 
  • Heat over medium heat until the sauce comes to a simmer. Allow to simmer as long as you desire.  See notes. 
  • 5 minutes before serving, add the cream, taste and add more salt and pepper as desired.
