Ingredients

The following ingredients have 12 Servings
  • 1 whole chicken
  • 250g yellow split peas
  • 2 brown onions chopped large
  • 1 celery stalk chopped
  • 4 carrots chopped
  • 1 tbs salt
  • 1L water

Instruction

  • Add split peas and chicken to a large pot. Add enough water to cover the chicken and bring to the boil and allowing to boil slowly for 1.5 hours.
  • Remove the chicken and any bones. Set aside and allow to cool.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients to the pot, reduce the heat to a simmer and cover.
  • Once chicken is cool, remove meat from the bones, chop and return chicken to pot with other ingredients.
  • Simmer for another 6-8 hours, then serve.
