Ingredients

The following ingredients have 4 Servings
  • Water
  • 6 black tea bags
  • 1 ½ cups milk (Liquid Coffee Creamer or Half & Half)
  • ⅓ cup Rodelle Vanilla Sugar
  • 2 small cinnamon sticks
  • 3 star anise
  • ½ whole nutmeg (grated)
  • 6 pods cardamon (crushed)
  • ⅛ tsp ground cinnamon

Instruction

  • Assemble spices, crush cardamon pods and break cinnamon sticks in half.
  • Fill pot with water, add all the spices to pot and bring to a boil. Boil at least five minutes. Ten minutes for a stronger spice flavor. I boiled my pot of spices for about seven minutes and it had a very nice spicy flavor. Some chai teas are way too spicy for me but seven minutes gave me a nice mellow spice flavor, not over powering.
  • Add tea bags to pot of water and spices. Steep tea 8 - 10 minutes and remove tea bags. Tea gets very bitter if steeped too long.
  • While tea steeps warm your dairy of choice in a small pot until bubbles form along the inside edges of the pot. Remove from heat and whisk until foamy.
  • Remove tea bags and pour tea/spice mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a warmed tea pot.
  • Fill tea cup half way to ¾ full with chai tea and top off with your warmed milk, liquid creamer or half and half.
  • Dollop whipped cream on top and sprinkle with ground cinnamon.
