Ingredients
The following ingredients have 8 Servings
- - 1/2 cup sugar
- - 1/2 cup brown sugar
- - 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
- - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- - 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- - 7 to 8 cups thinly sliced apples
- - 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- - pastry for double-crust pie ( 9 in )
- - 1 egg white
- - additional sugar
Instruction
- In a small bowl, combine sugars, flour and spices; set aside. In a large bowl, toss apples with lemom juice, add sugar mixture; toss well to coat. Line a 9 in pie pan with half the pastry, place apple filling into crust, dot with butter. Top with remaining pastry; flute edges and cut slits on top.Beat egg whites until foamy; brush over pastry. Sprinkle sugar on top. bake at 375 for 35 minuntes increase temperature to 400 nd bake 10 to 15 minutes moe or until golden brown.
- I make this pie for my diabetic family members and just subtitute 1/2 cup granulated Splenda and 1/2 cup granulated brown Splenda. You can't tell the difference
