Ingredients

The following ingredients have 4 Servings
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Butter (for serving)
  • Powdered sugar (for garnish)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)

Instruction

  • Stir together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves in a large mixing bowl. Stir until combined. (If gifting pour dry ingredients into a 1-quart mason jar.)
  • In another mixing bowl, whisk together milk, butter, molasses, eggs, and lemon juice until combined. It may look broken and streaky, that's okay.
  • Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix until completely incorporated and there are no lumps. Let better rest for 5 minutes.
  • Heat waffle iron while waffle batter rests.
  • Once the waffle iron is hot, coat the irons with non-stick cooking spray. Pour 3/4 cup of batter onto the iron. Close and cook until the indicator light goes off, about 5 minutes. Once you open the iron your waffle should be crispy on top and fluffy in the middle.
  • Transfer waffle to a plate and spread butter on immediately. Repeat with remaining waffle batter.
  • Sprinkle waffles with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup. Serve warm.
