Ingredients

The following ingredients have 9 Servings
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup hot water

Instruction

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9-inch square pan.
  • In a large bowl or stand mixer, cream together the sugar and butter. Beat in the egg and vanilla; mix in the molasses.
  • In another bowl, sift together the flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, and salt. Fold the dry ingredients into the molasses mixture. Stir in the hot water and pour into the prepared pan.
  • Bake 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Cool in the pan before cutting into squares.
