- 20 slices Nian gao ((about 4 x 5 cm piece) see notes)
- 10 slices sweet potato (peeled) (cut to about the same size with nian gao slices)
- Cooking oil (for deep-frying)
- 1 1/4 cups rice flour
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup ice-cold water
