Ingredients
The following ingredients have 4 Servings
- 4 TBS butter (room temperature)
- 2 medium Vidalia onions ( peeled, halved and thinly sliced)
- 3 ounces gruyere cheese (grated)
- pinch salt
- pinch black pepper
- 4 slices 4 slices Sara Lee® Artesano™ Bakery Bread
Instruction
- Heat a heavy bottom skillet over medium low heat, and add 2 TBS butter to the skillet.
- Add the onions to the skillet once the butter is melted, and then saute them for a few minutes
- Turn the heat to low/medium and let the onions sit. Let the onions sit in the skillet and stir them every 5-6 minutes. Once the onions are browned remove from heat (about 20-25 minutes).
- Add the cooked onions to the grated cheese, mix.
- Taking the remaining softened butter, slather onto one side of each slice of bread (this will be the side you cook the sandwich on). Add the onion mixture on the side of the bread that does not have the butter, and add another slice to the top, butter facing out.
- Wipe out the skillet you cooked the onions in, then heat over low/medium heat. Place the grilled cheese into the skillet, butter facing down. Cook 3-4 minutes or until browned on that side, then carefully flip over. Cook 2-3 minutes on the other side and remove from the pan.
- Repeat for second sandwich. Cook and remove from skillet. Cut in half and enjoy immediately.
