  • canola or vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • ½ tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder (optional for an added kick of heat)
  • bowl of water (for dipping chicken in)
