Ingredients

The following ingredients have 4 Servings
  • 1 Cup Khoya / Mava
  • 3 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Cocoa Powder
  • ⅓ Cup Chocolate
  • 1 tsp Ghee

Instruction

  • First, measure and keep all the ingredients ready.
  • To a heavy-bottomed or nonstick pan, add the khoya.
  • Add the sugar and simmer the flame completely.
  • Continue mixing for 2 minutes, till the sugar melts.
  • Add the cocoa powder and chocolate chips.
  • Continue mixing for another 2 minutes, the chocolate chips melt and the mixture turns more goey now.
  • Now, pour 1 tsp of ghee. Mix for 1 more minute, till the mixture leaves the sides of the pan and forms a mass. Don't cook furthermore, else the modak turns hard and dense. To check the consistency, pinch a portion of the mixture and try to roll into a ball, then it's perfect.
  • Immediately, transfer the mixture to another plate or bowl. Allow it cool down for 10 minutes. Knead the dough once and ensure it is smooth.
  • Take the Modak mould and grease with little ghee. Stuff little mixture into the mould and use your fingers to spread it. Otherwise, make a ball and stuff into the mould from the bottom.
  • Place the mixture inside the mould and seal it. Now open the mould gently and de-mould the modak. (Please watch my video of how to make modak)
  • Do the same with all the mixture. Give a resting time of 10 minutes, so the modak turns firm.Try this Chocolate Modak Recipe for this coming Ganesh Chathurthi festival.
