Ingredients

The following ingredients have 4 Servings
  • 1 1/2 cup yellow split peas washed
  • 2 tsp black mustard seeds
  • 12 fresh curry leaves
  • 1 tbs ground cumin
  • 3 cm fresh ginger minced
  • 4 garlic clove minced
  • 1 tbs ground turmeric
  • 1 tomato diced
  • 1 onion diced
  • 2 tsp coriander seeds ground
  • 1 tbs canola oil
  • 1 cup plain yoghurt *to serve
  • 1 pinch fresh coriander *to decorate
  • 1 cup tomato diced *to decorate

Instruction

  • Heat oil and add mustard seeds until they pop.
  • Add cumin, coriander seeds, turmeric and curry leaves, and fry until fragrant.
  • Add ginger, garlic, onion and fry off gently.
  • Add tomato to make curry paste.
  • Add dahl and 6 cups of water.
  • Simmer for 1½ hours until dahl is tender and cooked as desired.
  • Serve with rice and roti.
