Ingredients

The following ingredients have 4 Servings
  • Granny Smith Apples - 4
  • Sugar - 1 cup
  • Corn Syrup - 1/4 cup
  • Water - 1/3 cup
  • Red food color - 1/2 tsp

Instruction

  • Wash the apples and pat dry. Insert a lollipop stick or popsicle stick or wooden skewer or chopsticks in the center of each apple. Keep this ready. Granny Smith (Green) Apples are considered ideal for this because it has a tart flavor which goes well with the sweetness of the candy but you can make it with other apples too.
  • Keep a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper ready. This is for cooling the apples.
  • Combine the sugar, water, corn syrup and red food color in a sauce pan. It is advisable to use a deep saucepan than a wider one so that it is easier to coat the apples.
  • Bring to a boil and cook for almost 20 minutes on medium flame. Switch off. If you have a candy thermometer, it should show 300 degree F.
  • Take one apple at a time and carefully dip into the candy mixture swirling around to coat all sides. Just tip the sauce pan to one side to help coat the apples easily.
  • Lift it and hold it for few seconds so that the excess candy mixture drips off. Otherwise it will pool up when you put it on the parchment paper.
  • Place the candy coated apples on the cookie sheet, to let the candy cool and harden.
