Ingredients

The following ingredients have 4 Servings
  • 2 cups all purpouse flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold & cut into cubes)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg powder
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup applesauce (unsweetened)
  • 1.25 cup chopped apples (I did not peel them, you may do so)
  • turbinado sugar
  • heavy cream (to brush on top.)

Instruction

  • In a bowl whisk together all purpose flour, cinnamon powder, nutmeg powder and ginger powder. Add the baking powder and whisk.
  • Now add both the sugars and whisk to combine. Set aside.
  • In another measuring jar or bowl, whisk together egg and vanilla extract.
  • Add in the heavy cream and unsweetened apple sauce and whisk to combine. Set aside.
  • Now take cubed cold butter out of the refrigerator and add it to the flour mix.
  • Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or two forks till the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add in the liquid mix to the flour mix and also add the chopped apples.
  • Mix everything together. Dump it onto a floured surface (the dough will be sticky) and work with your hands to bring it together in form of a 8 inch circle.
  • Using a sharp knife cut the circle into 8 triangles. Brush each triangle with heavy cream and sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
  • Bake the scones at 400 F degrees for 20-25 minutes. Enjoy warm apple salted caramel scones with coffee!
