Ingredients

The following ingredients have 9 Servings
  • Puff Pastry (thawed)
  • 2 apples (cored and diced)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 30 gms – 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 tsp marmalade
  • 1 ½ teaspoons apple pie spice mix (click here for the recipe)
  • 1 egg (beaten)

Instruction

  • Peel and dice the apples into small cubes.
  • Put it in a sauce pan with the brown sugar, apple spice mix, butter and marmalade.
  • Cook on a low fire until soft. You may need to add a little water, depending on the apples you are using. Let the filling cool down.
  • Use a 13 cm – 5 inch round cookie cutter to cut the dough into 8-10 circles.
  • Add one heaping tablespoon of filling to the center of each dough circle, leaving as much liquid behind as possible.
  • Fold the dough in half and use your fingers or a fork to seal the edges.
  • Place hand pies on prepared baking sheet.
  • In a small bowl, whisk the egg. Use a pastry brush to lightly brush the tops of the hand pies with the egg wash.
  • Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180°C – 355°F for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Allow the hand pies to cool and serve.
